  Abstract

As a proteomics workhorse, Western blot has been a key part of protein analysis in many labs. Yet, for such an important technology, it has been around in essentially the same form since the late 1970s. Conventional western blot is known to be both labour-intensive and time consuming. The continuous manual intervention required to run it also inherently introduces many opportunities for error.

Applications Specialist,
Sciencewerke

Roeswita Leono is currently a senior application specialist at Sciencewerke Pte Ltd, providing technical and application support regionally for automated immunoassay platforms for use in research and pharmaceutics.

Without taking away Western blot technology at its core, Simple Western allows for size-based separation, immunoassay and protein analysis without the need for continuous manual intervention. This is achieved using a fully automated novel capillary-based nano-immunoassay system. Simple Western has the ability to both characterize molecular weights and perform true quantitation of proteins, in a highly reproducible manner, in less than 3 hours.
